I don’t spend nearly as much time with my extended family as I would like to. With my own immediate family, personal and work responsibilities, as well as the distance between us, I am no longer able to “go home” every month like I did when I was single in my 20s.
That’s life.
And that’s why I truly enjoy when we get together every year for our family retreat. My aunt, who is a truly admirable planner and coordinator, came up with the idea for us to have a retreat every 1 to 2 years. It is a time for all of us (my mom, a few of her siblings, their children and respective families) to come together to reconnect and have fun. It is a time enjoyed by all who participate.
Our first retreat was in 2013 at a huge cabin in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
This year, we went to Disney World.
I haven’t been to Disney since my teenage years, so it has changed quite a lot. I was also excited about taking my children to Disney World for the first time. They were in awe. And while I didn’t take a ton of photos (I was too busy enjoying the moments in real time, and—let’s be real—just trying to stay cool), I did manage to capture a few that I wanted to share with you. I hope you enjoy.
Even though these photos were just taken a couple of months ago, I smile just thinking about the memories associated with them. Photographs get more valuable over time—trust me on that. If you would like for me to document your family story, just give me a call.
